This unit was about combining our own use of green screen with 3D scenes, which I was very excited about because I had never tried to put myself in a sci-fi world before.
In the beginning I chose the Inception theme because it was less difficult to light the characters and more difficult to model, which was the first reason I wanted to try it. But then I gave up when I realised that I couldn’t find the exact location in the film after trying anything, even though I knew that the location was at the Hotel Saint-Germain in France. I couldn’t complete the modelling task without a clear picture of the exact structure of the building on all sides.

It so happened that during my extensive search for sci-fi films, while investigating scenes from the filming of Doctor Strange, I stumbled across several articles writing blogs about Doctor Strange’s field trips, which featured a Google Maps 3D image located exactly where the Ancient One mage was in the film, and I was so excited about it that I chose the clearest possible scene as my choice for the final film.

Detailed modelling process
At the beginning, I will divide the building surfaces involved in the picture, and mark the parts that need to be shown in Blender first with a circular edge to mark the position of the building details in the picture.

Due to the complexity of the architectural details, doing each part individually would have made it more difficult for the individual parts to fit together and maintain the correct proportions of the left, right, top and bottom, so I ended up choosing to create the environment by wiring the walls, extruding them, as well as boolean and arraying them.

Special effects-process
Dr Strange’s portal was made by me following a tutorial on youtube, using particles and geometry nodes. Then I make adjustments to meet the needs of the scene

About lighting
The light source is the part that I find more difficult to tweak, and I’ve experienced a few failures, such as shadow issues.

It wasn’t until later that I remembered that using a face light would have the effect of partially illuminating this light and shadow correctly.

Composited

I don’t know why, but this time portal is so strange, it’s nothing like the previous solo rendering, I’m rather disappointed with the current state of things, if I had more time I would have tweaked the portal.
